  Are JWs now encouraged to volunteer?

  after i retired i volunteered for several community service programs, including working with the local food bank.

  every fourth thursday of each month i help out in distributing food to needy families at the local veterans building.

  i've been helping out for five years now.

  urghhh... what a disgusting study!7 a conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped.

  for example, a sister named anne received a telephone call from her disfellowshipped mother.

  the mother wanted to visit anne because she felt pained by her isolation from the family.

  Anne wrote and kindly reminded her mother that she had cut herself off from the family by her wrongdoing and unrepentant attitude. “The only way you can relieve your pain is by returning to Jehovah,” Anne wrote.

  The writers that come up with this stuff live in the isolated world of bethel. When living in a like-minded hive of WT drones, disfellowshipping sounds beneficial to all concerned.

  But out in the real world where ordinary JWs have to work with and live around nonJWs, the disfellowshipping practice screams "cult!"

  The situation described in this article would easily be surrounded by nonJW family members, neighbors, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and onlookers. Although WT can issue the command that nobody ask any questions about the judicial meeting and that nobody talk to the dfd, that certainly doesn't apply to all those nonJWs. And when the mother in this WT story recounts what has transpired and shows what the daughter wrote in the letter to any nonJW, what are they going to think? "What a bitch of a daughter in a stupid church. Poor mother."
  

  I've talked to fellow students, coworkers, and my therapist about this JC and df practice. Of course they find it disgusting and lose any respect for JWs that they previously had. So the GB can keep ordering the sheeple to preach, but I know plenty of people that will never listen because they are aware of this unloving practice of this captive cult.

  As if "just marry a JW and you'll enjoy a wonderful life". Plenty of "fine Christians" married... and later divorced. After I became an elder and found out how many of these "fine Christian" couples and families were really a wreck, I lost my desire to marry. I'm still trying to recover from some of the stuff I "witnessed".

  loyalty to God should move you to report the matter to the elders.

  This is the type of thing that created this problem of the crime of child molestation being reported to the elders WHEN IT SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE POLICE! If there is no confession or witness besides the victim, the "loyal" congregation leaves a molester free to strike again. Meanwhile, if an engaged couple confesses that they got a little touchy-feely, the elders bring down the hammer and publicly humiliate them.

  I was an elder in a congregation where this tattle-tale spirit got absolutely out of control. As if there weren't enough real problems, there were some teenage girls and their mothers that started a war of accusations against one another. It was a mess with a quarter of the congregation not on speaking terms with another quarter and they were trying to drag the rest of us into the battle. I sure don't miss that kind of "fine Christian" sh!t.

  Being Positive around family that are still in.

  if you are a fader or you have reduced activity markedly - say resigned as a pioneer or an elder or ms or gone inactive and still have some relationship with your immediate family or spouse - how do you stay positive around them when you feel like shaking them out of their stupor but believe deep down it would be counter productive?.

  I make it a point to have positive things in my life to talk about. I avoid subjects like politics or disasters that might trigger JW reactions. If they start venturing toward JW things, I redirect to talking about the JWs we know. There's always plenty of gossip about who's become seriously ill, divorced, or started partaking.

  There was probably counsel from the platform about how christian wives should have a "quiet and mild spirit" in order to "win their husbands over without a word."

  A Watchtower double standard: Rejection and the silent treatment.

  a recent watchtower study article shows how bad it is to be rejected over religious beliefs when olga revealed that her husband was not speaking to her because she is a jehovah's witness.. 9 in south america, olga proved loyal to god by showing respect for her husband even under trying circumstances.

  for years, he expressed annoyance at her for being one of jehovah’s witnesses.

  he abused her emotionally, insulted her, refused to speak to her, and threatened to take the children and leave her.

  When it comes to being passive-aggressive, JWs top everyone. She could have just stayed home. Instead, she waited outside the church to make a public display of her contempt for his religion and police who he may talk to and where he may go before and afterward.

  If Prince had an addiction to prescriptions drugs, it's a personal matter but if I want to grow a beard or attend college, it's not.

  interesting article i found about prince and the jw religion.

  i guess they are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

  i find it disturbing that the elder stated if prince had an addiction to prescription drugs, that is a personal matter but the hundreds of intrusive jw rules like going to college (not scriptural) and growing a beard (also not scriptural) are not also considered a personal choice.
